Copyright, Fair Use, Netiquette, and Cyberbullying...in a nutshell?

Okay, so I'm so confused on copyright and fair use. I think that the less I use of someone's work, the safer I will be. I know that as far as copies go, most books will say whether or not there is a copyright. I also know that some books will state on there that educators are given permission to make copies. I am still a little unclear as to how many copies a teacher can make. I know that if a book is consumable such as a workbook, then the teacher is not allowed to make copies of it. As far as media goes, I think that if I use 10% or less of the full length of the media then I’m safe. I’m still unclear as to whether we can use videos from YouTube that are homemade, if there is not copyright listed, or is everything that someone else does, automatically copyrighted? Someone help…my head is spinning with all of this info.

Netiquette is being respectful to yourself and others when posting something. Even if you disagree with someone's opinion, be respectful when responding to it. There has been numerous times that I have looked online at people's comments to some story that yahoo has on their site and people will use bad words to get their point across. Why? I think we can state our opinion in a respectful way and that to me is netiquette.

As far as cyber bullying goes, I hate it.  I hate that we can’t protect our children from it. While we may be able to monitor our own children closely, we can’t do that with our students. I think that it is a lot easier for children to be cyber bullied than to be bullied in person. I don’t know why, but it seems that we are more comfortable with saying things in writing than saying things in person. I know that in this class, I am willing to share more about myself because none of the other students really know me. I seem to open up quicker online than I do in person. I believe it’s the same way for people who are bullies. They tend to say uglier things online than the do in person. I that it is super important for us as educators to teach our students about the dangers of cyber bullying and let them know that there are people they can talk to that will help them with this.
